Mission, Enrollment, and Accountability: Understanding the Connections Between SEM and Accreditation

If nationally or regionally accredited institutions situate financial gains in front of the expectations and needs of their students, how might such abuses materialize in the course of accreditation reviews? This question has created some interesting challenges and opportunities for enrollment managers.

Presenters:
Dan Sewell, Ph.D, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Saybrook University (former Accreditation Liaison Officer, Fielding Graduate University)
Monique Snowden, Associate Provost for Enrollment Management, Fielding Graduate University

Half-Day Workshops
Sunday, October 30, 1:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Strategic Enrollment Management by Design

SEM does not just happen by itself, and it certainly is not easy to implement on a campus unaccustomed to joint efforts. Administrative offices in the enrollment services division often work in silos of specialization; offices outside of the division often have zero interaction with the enrollment services division, and faculty may not always believe recruitment and retention have any relation to their profession. A panel of representatives will outline different models for developing, by design, an effective enrollment management program.

Presenters:
James Maraviglia, Assistant Vice President of Admissions, Recruitment & Financial Aid, California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo
Luke Schultheis, Interim Associate Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services, University of Nevada-Las Vegas
Lee Young
, Vice Provost for Enrollment Management, Nevada State College
Scot Lingrell, Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management, University of West Georgia

Building Institutional Capacity for Student Persistence

Our institutions are amassing a sizable amount of institutional research and analysis on student engagement and student satisfaction, yet many of us remain unclear on how we can increase student persistence and success. This workshop will provide an overview of what student persistence means, how the SEM planning framework can be used to enhance student success, and will explore innovative “best practices” in both Canada and the U.S.

Presenters:
Susan Gottheil, Vice Provost (Students), University of Manitoba
Clayton Smith, Vice Provost, Students & International, University of Windsor

The Role of International Students in a Strategic Enrollment Plan

With over one million international students currently studying in the U.S., how does an institution recruit and retain, as well as develop an enrollment plan for international students? Does your institution have to undergo changes to attract international students? Do you have the ability to evaluate their educational credentials? Do you actively recruit overseas? What resources are available to accomplish your goals? These questions and more will be answered.

Presenters:
Dale Gough, Director, AACRAO International Education Services
Michelle Hampton, Associate Director, Global Client Relations, Educational Testing Service
Kathy Harrington , Executive Director, Linden Tours
Nichole Johnson, Director, REAC Services, Institute of International Education
Matt Washburn, Program Officer for Europe, EducationUSA - U.S. State Department
Robert Watkins, Assistant Director of Admissions, The University of Texas at Austin
